HOLY SPIRIT: PART 10

May 24, 2026    Pastor Randy Helms

This powerful exploration of Pentecost takes us back to ground zero of the early church, inviting us to step into the shoes of those first disciples who witnessed the arrival of the Holy Spirit. We discover that Jesus mentioned the coming Holy Spirit eleven times throughout the Gospels, constantly preparing His followers for what was next. The message reveals a crucial distinction: receiving the Holy Spirit and being baptized by the Holy Spirit are two different experiences. When Jesus breathed on the disciples after His resurrection, He gave them temporary empowerment, but Pentecost brought permanent filling. Those 120 believers gathered in unity, praying and waiting as Jesus instructed, and suddenly the Holy Spirit came like a mighty windstorm with tongues of fire. In one day, 3,000 people were saved through Peter's first sermon. This teaches us three transformative truths: God moves when His people are unified, the Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people like us, and it has always been about reaching others. The same power that launched the church 2,000 years ago is available to us today, not for our own sake, but to effectively share the gospel with a lost and dying world.
