HOLY SPIRIT: PART 3

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor Randy Helms

This powerful message invites us into a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit by exploring His many names throughout Scripture. We discover that the Holy Spirit is mentioned 79 times by 12 different names in the Old Testament and 247 times by 28 different names in the New Testament. Just as we hold different titles in our lives—parent, child, friend, leader—each revealing a different aspect of who we are, the Holy Spirit's many names reveal the fullness of His character and how He interacts with us. These names fall into three categories reflecting the triune nature of God: the Spirit of God the Father, the Spirit of God the Son, and the third person of the Trinity. When we understand the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of the Father, we experience His parental love, comfort, and correction. As the Spirit of the Son, we're reminded of Jesus's promise in John 14:12 that we will do the works He did and even greater works. This isn't empty rhetoric—it's the reality available to every believer who has the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwelling within them. The question confronting us is profound: if we have this power, why aren't we living it? Perhaps we've become too comfortable, too afraid to surrender control. This message challenges us to pursue Jesus above everything else and step into the fullness of what He has promised us.
