HOLY SPIRIT: PART 7

Apr 26, 2026    Pastor Johnny Johnson

This powerful message from Ephesians 4:30 confronts us with a sobering reality: we can grieve the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. The Greek word for grief here describes the deep sorrow of a spouse discovering betrayal, revealing just how personal our relationship with the Holy Spirit truly is. We learn that the Holy Spirit is not merely a force but a person with emotions, feelings, and personality who responds to our thoughts, words, and actions. The message presents a critical cycle of bitterness that begins with hurt and, if left unaddressed through forgiveness, progresses through offense, anger, resentment, and hatred until it becomes a poisonous root that brings physical, spiritual, and emotional bondage. The tragic story of Absalom serves as a vivid warning of where unresolved bitterness leads. Yet there is hope: we are called to seek to please the Holy Spirit by choosing forgiveness, kindness, and tenderheartedness. The solution is beautifully simple yet profoundly challenging—we must forgive others as God through Christ has forgiven us, breaking the cycle before it enslaves us.
