THE HOLY SPIRIT: PART 1

Mar 1, 2026    Pastor Randy Helms

This powerful message invites us to rediscover the Holy Spirit not as a distant theological concept, but as the active, creative force who has been present since the very beginning of time. We journey back to Genesis 1:2, where the Spirit of God hovers over the waters, bringing order from chaos and light from darkness. This same creative power that spoke the universe into existence is the same Spirit who overshadowed Mary to bring forth Jesus, and the same Spirit who dwells within us today. The message challenges us to recognize three foundational characteristics of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament: creation, conversion, and commission. We see how God changed the hearts of unlikely heroes like Rahab, Naaman, and even the sailors on Jonah's ship, demonstrating that transformation is never by human willpower alone but by the Spirit's work within us. Most significantly, we're reminded that while the Old Testament shows the Spirit coming and going upon individuals for specific tasks, we live under a New Testament covenant where the Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence in believers. This isn't just theological information; it's an invitation to lean into a deeper relationship with the third person of the Trinity, who empowers us to live out the gospel in ways we could never accomplish on our own.
